Interviewer: With Regain records you are working with a new label now…

GD: I’ve had my new label since 1994 now. The album was only licensed by Regain. “Evillive” at the bottom of the booklet is my label. After five years I had enough from record labels. Therefore today I only search for distributors. It doesn't have anything to do with Def American, it’s just better to be your own boss.

Interviewer: It would be interesting to know if you are still playing with the same band. Just before "Blackacidevil" John Christ and the other members left the band...

GD: When I founded Danzig I was already sure about the fact that the line up would change. That’s why I’m happy with the situation where I can play with lots of different people.

Interviewer: Joey Castillo isn’t with Danzig any longer?

GD: No. Last time we came to Europe we where joined by Johnny from Type O Negative. We didn’t play Germany since the last time we where here, I guess it was in December. We where in Scandinavia, London, went to South America and were in the States as well.

Interviewer: Did you pick the five songs you played for us or are these songs the only ones that are ready now?

GD: (laughs) They are rough mixes and the only ones that are ready. When they will be mastered they will sound a lot heavier!

Interviewer: They already sound heavy! They do sound more like the old Danzig material of the first four albums.

GD: I don’t know what that means. All guitars are tuned down and it is most definately a Danzig album. It is definately a statement against Nu Metal which we have here in America, I hate it! They keep creating a new song out of song. I keep listening to the same song again and again. It pretty much faded out here in America. I think in Germany Nu Metal is still being heard?

Interviewer: Yes, unfortunately. Let’s move to America!

GD: It’s over here. The last to albums by Limp Bizkit weren’t successful at all. Same goes for the last Korn album.

Interviewer: Speaking about Nu Metal...the album "Blackacidevil" is quite interesting in this context cause it was different from all your other albums...

GD: It was more like a crazy Samhain album... and a lot of Danzig people have not...(he interrupts and starts with a new thought) Most people who only knew “Mother” didn’t knew about the other stuff. It was pretty much a very good, loud and crazy underground album. We did what we had to do and it fulfilled it’s need.

Interviewer: I’m just wondering, as the next album mirrored your typical rockstyle you usually have and who underlines your “Evil-Elvis-image”. Are you a fan of Elvis?

GD: Yes, very much so, especially the early and late Elvis. I didn’t like the period in between but I also liked some of his newer stuff.

Interviewer: Let’s get back to the new five tracks, cause they already sound very fat. While I remember “Live On The Black Hand Side”, are you happy with such a live album?

GD: It’s ok. It’s just a live album without any overdubs. I hate it when people say they’ll gonna make a live album, then go to the studio and record new guitars and vocals. That’s no live album. Ours is pure. No bullshit!

Interviewer: Are you still in contact with the Misfits?

GD: No.

Interviewer: Do you still look back at this time?

GD: Sure. It was great at that time. And that’s it. It was a long time ago.

Interviewer: Will you ever record a new Samhain album?

GD: There already is a boxset which contains a fifth album and a live album, but no.

Interviewer: What about your solo album “Black Aria”?

GD: I have a second part, but have not had the time to record it yet. The cover art is ready and was created by a female comic artist. It has been ready for a long time now.

Interviewer: Do you still work out?

GD: Whenever I have the chance. At my best, I practiced four times a week. Today, when I’m lucky, I practice twice a week.

Interviewer: Do you have any plans considering new film projects such as your perfomance in “The Prophecy II”?

GD: I think I’ll start a new film project after we have finished this tour. Guess it will be November. We will try to put a Verotik character into it.

Interviewer: It will be dark but not like the splatter movie by Rob Zombie?

GD: Maybe yes, but not like Rob Zombie’s movie. It's adapted from an orginal story out of my comics. I hope you’ve already seen the comics we create? There are e few new characters. For example there is a kind of “Conan” of the Aztecs-era. Very bloody.

Interviewer: You also did some stuff with Bela B. from “Die Ärzte”?

GD: He distributed one of our Verotik characters, Satanika. I don’t know if he still does.

Interviewer: Let’s get back to the album...it sounds more like the old Danzig stuff...Why is that?

GD: Every one says so about every new album. It was said after the sitxth..the seventh...

Interviewer: No, really. We listendend to Danzig one on our way here and when you listen to the new album afterwards it fits together perfectly, except for the fact that it sounds harder and heavier.

GD: I just write the songs. I simply do what I like and I only record what I like!

Interviewer: As you already stated, you are pretty much unimpressed by modern music such as Nu Metal. Is there any music you are inspired by?

GD: Inspired in my writing songs? No, maybe when I was a kid.

Interviewer: Do you like the new Misfits stuff?

GD: There is no new Misfits stuff. You must be joking (Glenn Danzig says evilly laughing).

Interviewer: Which of the five new tracks do you prefer?

GD: I don’t know. It’s always changing. For example, Tommy adds some new guitar part and therefore it’s changing every day. There are a lot more tracks than the one’s you’ve just been listening to. I just prepared something so you could listen to something. The songs you’ve been listening to are "Circle of Snakes," "1000 Devils Reign," "Skincarver," "Skull Forrest", and "When We Were Dead."

Interviewer: How are your songs created? Do you play the piano while Tommy adds the guitar parts or do you play the guitar as well?

GD: Sometimes I play the power cords or some overdubs. Then you sit around and think of something. It’s hard work. I did alot on my own guitar parts with Samhain and Danzig.

Interviewer: Your lyrics are very dark. Are there any special subjects on your new album?

GD: Sex, violence, hating this world, he explains generally but with a smile. What else? It’s enough!

Interviewer: Will there be a single?

GD: Singles? We don’t do that in Anerica. Maybe there will be for the European market. In America only people like Madonna and N’Sync record singles. “Real” bands won’t do that. But we chose songs for some video clips. It will be "1000 Devils Reign" and "Circle of Snakes." A snake skin suit was especially created for a girl by a special effect creator. Our snakegirl will be part of the second part of “House of the 1000 Corpses."

Interviewer: Cool! Unfortunately Danzig videos are rarely played on the German MTV stations like MTV and Viva.

GD: MTV and Viva suck in Germany! MTV-America is bullshit in America too, but we have a lot of other music-stations.

Interviewer: Do you wanna say someting to your fans?

GD: They already know that I am very thankful for their support. Especially because there’s so much bullshit out there. I feel I am obligated to what I am doing. Somebody has to do something since MTV won't. The fans are our support!
