Glenn Danzig and Devilman138

Devilman138 talks with GLENN DANZIG

Date: 03/20/99

Location: Shrine Auditorium - Los Angeles, CA

This weekend angelfuck138 and I briefly got to talk with Glenn Danzig on current DANZIG and Verotik projects. Fangs to all those who showed up! Good to see Hybrid831, Heath from Unholy Passion website, Eek!, Josh Lazie, Naomi, Matt Kennedy, and Sarah. Read below for the interview. Hope you enjoy.

Dm138: I understand that you just finished up w/ Danzig6. Did you produce the record yourself?

Glenn: I produced it with Peter Lorimer.

Dm138: How many songs did you have before going into the studio?

Glenn: I had about 20.

Dm138: Once you have a song...does it change while your recording?

Glenn: It depends...sometimes "yes"...sometimes "no." Sometimes I'll even change it during the mixing.

Dm138: What label will release the record?

Glenn: Not sure yet. We'll know soon. I'm trying to get the right record contract because I want to put out a ton of stuff. Not just Danzig6, but a whole bunch of stuff I just got back from American Recordings. There are a ton of unreleased DANZIG songs that I want to put out. There is also a bunch of video footage, like from Irvine Meadows, that I just got back from American along with a bunch of footage from Europe that might come out also. With that would go the Samhain Boxset. So that's what I want to accomplish with this deal.

Dm138: How many songs will Danzig6 contain?

Glenn: There will be 12 or 13.

Dm138: Any personal favorites?

Glenn: I like all of them depending on my mood. "Cold Eternal," "Into The Mouth Of Abandonment," and "Belly Of The Beast" are cool for listening and some other heavier ones are better for going off.

Dm138: What song would you like to see for the first single/video?

Glenn: I don't really care because I like them all, but the label will probably go with "Belly Of The Beast" or "Cold Eternal" and I'm cool with that.

Dm138: How long did the album take to mix?

Glenn: It took about 3 weeks. We did 1/2 at NRG and 1/2 at A&M.

Dm138: Do you have a release date for Danzig6?

Glenn: Tentatively late spring. We have already booked some dates for Europe starting in mid June.

Glenn Danzig Dm138: Have you decided on the artwork yet?

Glenn: Not sure yet, but we have all our photos done. The record might be called "Danzig666-Satan's Child."

Dm138: So you will be making an appearance at "Super Fest" this May in Japan?

Glenn: Yeah Simon Bisley and I will be there. We're going to have a listening party for Danzig6. They want me to have a display with some of the old Misfits/Samhain/Danzig stuff.

Dm138: You still have some of that clothing from the Misfits?

Glenn: Well the stuff that I didn't throw out to the crowd. I have some boots, gloves, and t-shirts. I'm also taking the Danzig belt buckle with the original belt. I also just recently found some Misfits/Samhain skateboards that we will display in Japan...we might sell some through the web. Along with that I found some "Unholy Passion" and "November Coming Fire" posters and a box of original "Unholy Passion" 12inch vinyls.

Verotik Comics Dm138: Is it possible we might see some Glenn Danzig Super-D's?

Glenn: Yeah we might do a set. A set of 3....one of me in The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig. Lazie wants one of himself also so we might have to do the whole band. We might also release the new Tribal Skull belt buckles.

Dm138: (as we switch to talking about VEROTIK Glenn's publishing company) When are the new Satanika Super-D's coming out?

Glenn: Those will be out in April. It is a set of 3. They are similiar to the "Verotik World Super-D's" we just put out. These are a little bigger. This set includes "Naekith," "Morella," and "Satanika."

Dm138: There was talk at www.The7thHouse.com that people wanted to see Jenna Jameson play "Satanika" if there was a "live" action movie. They also mentioned Rob Halford would make a good "Inquisitor" and Peter Steele as "Dalkiel."

Glenn: He's too skinney to play "Dalkiel." "Dalkiel" is huge! Maybe the Eric Canete version of "Dalkiel."

Dm138: When will the Grub Girl "live" action movie be released?

Verotik Comics Glenn: Hopefully this year. We're just ironing out the contract. I think they want Madelyn Knight for Grub Girl. We're also planning a Venus Domina mini-series and a Jaguar God movie which will have buckets of blood throughout.

Dm138: Fangs for your time. From all the fans @ The7thHouse.

Glenn: Thanks.

This concluded the interview.
