WBCN XMAS RAVE, House of Blues, 12/03/96

The show on Tuesday was great!!! We arrived rather early in order to pick up our tickets, so we decided to hang out in the bar/restaurant and avoid the cold (the crews were setting up upstairs). Good move, as we were able to watch the bands coming and going, etc. Gravity Kills didn't go on until 10pm, so we had lots of time to kill. As we were eating dinner downstairs, "Bringer of Death" started blasting. At first I thought someone had put on the CD, until I realized that there were no vocals. I went upstairs to check it out and, sure enough, there were Tommy, Joey and Lazie onstage for a sound check. They sounded really good, obviously, as I thought it was the CD, haha. Next, they did Twist of Cain. I had gone back downstairs to try to finish my dinner...I was too excited to eat :-) Anyway, "Sacrifice" kicked in and we heard Glenn singing!!! Too cool! Of course, back up the stairs I went...haha! Finally, they launched into "Hint of Her Blood." It was so neat to see them prior to the audience showing up. Glenn was wearing his leather jacket and was just singing. Funny Note: I kept wondering what the folks downstairs thought of the aural assault :-)...just when they thought it was safe Gravity Kills began their soundcheck :-)

Speaking of Gravity Kills, when we were entering the building, these two guys came out. I thought that one of them looked familiar, sort of like one of my friends. Die looked at him and said, "hey, aren't you the singer for Gravity Kills?" haha, no wonder he looked familiar. Anyway, "Jeff" was pretty nice and came over and chatted w/us again after their sound check. I'm not that familiar w/their music, but they put on an energetic show. It was obviously a Danzig crowd, but they were well-received.

Danzig went on at 11:30 pm and all hell broke loose! It was crazy... They played a full set this time out, including (sorry, can't recall the order) Blackacidevil, 7th House, Sacrifice (the crowd went even crazier at this one) and Hint of Her Blood off the new record. They also did Mother, Dirty Black Summer, Twist of Cain, Long Way Back From Hell, Bringer of Death and I can't remember what else right now. For an encore Glenn said, "since this is the House of Blues..." and they launched into "Heart of the Devil." He sounded fantastic! Anyway, I must say again that the show was really great. We were right up front and Glenn took my hand a couple of times! Swoon :-) My only negative comments involve the testerone-crazed neanderthals who were actually rather violent. I could care less if these louts hurt each other, but I saw them purposely pushing and elbowing some of the women. How lame! Then of course, there are the other guys who assume the role of "protector" and then take advantage of the fact that you're all smushed together in order to have a good old feel-up. Grrrrr!

Of course, we hung out afterwards and met everyone and took pictures, etc... They were all very cool, gracious, etc. Glenn looked and sounded great, and I'm looking forward to the next show. I'd love to hear "Serpentia" or "Ashes" live.
